General Notes (Husband)

BUDDLE-On September 13, at his residence, Victoria Avenue, Remuera, Auckland,

Many grateful memories cluster around the name of Mr Thomas Buddle, whose useful life recently came to an end in his pleasant home at Remuera, Auckland. He was one of the best-known and most highly esteemed of our Auckland laymen, devoting himself most assiduously to every form of service that he felt lay in his power. He was the second son of the late Rev Thomas Buddle, whose name is so highly honoured in the history of New Zealand Methodism. He was a valued member of our various Connexional Boards in Auckland, and as a public-spirited citizen he was cordially respected. To how many he showed himself a wise and true friend in trouble only the day will declare. For the last few years broken health drove him into retirement, but the cheery note of faith and hope in God's good ordering of things never failed. It was a choice soul that went home to God when Thomas Buddle breathed his last. To Mrs Buddle and all the members of the bereaved family we tender our cordial sympathy. '

Secretary of the Probert Trust - a Methodist Trust - for many years. This was only one of the many ways in which Mr Buddle served the Church of his Fathers. A member of the legal profession, in charge of an extensive practice, yet he found time to give help to numbers of needy cases that never came before the public, as well as to take a full share of active responsibility in connection with both the temporal and spiritual affairs of the church. Quiet and unassuming in manner, by the consistency of his life and his many-sided benevolence, he won the cordial esteem of all who knew him.
