General Notes (Husband)
Obtained a charter from Alexander Seton, Lord of Gordon, of the lands of Newton, Herdill, Kinnordie, Balbredie etc. in the barony of Kirriemuir, dated 15 June 1434; also a charter from Nichol Borthwick of the lands of Ladinch etc. dated 15 March 1438; and a charter from William Gifford of Balnagarroch of the lands of Little Migry, etc. dated 1 April 1439, all of which are confirmed by a charter under the Great Seal.He had in 1444 a license to fortify his house, and add an iron gate.
He was killed at the Battle of Arbroath. On 29 January 1446 the Abbot usually delegated most of his non-religious functions, powers and privileges to a nominated "Bailie of the Regality". This was a hugely lucrative and highly sought-after position that tended to reside with the Ogilvy family. At the beginning of 1446 the Abbot appointed James Ogilvy to the role. A rival, Alexander Lindsay, arrived in Arbroath with a large crowd of supporters to challenge the appointment. The result was the "Battle of Arbroath", fought in front of the Abbey and through the streets of the town. 600 people were killed.
